The Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, recently highlighted the importance of the 2024 FCT statutory allocation in completing ongoing infrastructure projects before embarking on new ones. During a project inspection in Abuja, Mr. Wike visited two key projects: the 7.3-kilometre Gaba-Tokulo road in Bwari Area Council and the 5km temporary access road from the Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX) to the old Keffi road in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), also known as Saburi road.

Mr. Wike assured stakeholders that the 5km temporary access road in AMAC would be completed in the current year, emphasizing the Administration’s commitment to honoring existing obligations while strategically planning for future development. He noted that 58% of the capital budget had been allocated to ongoing projects, with the remaining 42% earmarked for new projects. This balanced approach underscores the Administration’s dedication to maximizing returns on investment from public funds.

The Minister emphasized the need to see existing projects through to completion before initiating new ones, highlighting the value of each project as a significant investment. He expressed confidence in the budget’s realistic allocation and assured a prompt implementation post-presidential approval.

As part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, Mr. Wike stressed the inclusive development across rural communities within the FCT. He cited ongoing construction of rural roads in all six area councils to provide essential infrastructure facilities to residents once the budget is officially signed into law. This commitment reflects the Administration’s drive to extend development beyond urban centers and ensure holistic progress across all regions.

Mr. Wike commended President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for its tangible impact on ongoing projects in the FCT, emphasizing the importance of rural development alongside urban progress. He shared his optimism about the timely completion of projects in the six area councils by year-end and pledged to kickstart the 2024 infrastructure initiatives as promised.

The Minister’s visit to the Saburi area council showcased the enthusiastic reception of the project by local residents and the commendable progress made by contractors. He reiterated the practical manifestation of the Renewed Hope Agenda through visible results and expressed gratitude to the President for supporting the FCT Administration’s endeavors.

Overall, Mr. Wike’s strategic budget allocation and focus on project completion underscore the Administration’s commitment to effective governance and sustainable development. By balancing existing obligations with future aspirations, the FCT aims to optimize resource utilization and deliver impactful infrastructure projects that benefit all residents. The Renewed Hope Agenda’s holistic approach to development ensures inclusive progress across urban and rural areas, reflecting a vision for a more prosperous and equitable Federal Capital Territory.
