The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, recently took a significant step towards enhancing security in the nation’s capital by distributing 100 motorcycles to security outfits and the six area councils within the territory. The handover ceremony, presided over by Mr. Wike, took place in Abuja on Monday.

Each of the six area councils received ten motorcycles, earmarked for allocation to their respective vigilante outfits. Additionally, the police force received 30 motorcycles, while the State Security Services and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) each received five motorcycles.

Mr. Wike expressed his confidence that the distribution of motorcycles would further strengthen security in the nation’s capital. He highlighted the importance of effectively utilizing these vehicles in combatting crime, especially in rural areas that face heightened vulnerability due to their remote and challenging terrains. Emphasizing the need for vigilance in protecting these exposed regions, he charged the security agencies with the responsibility of safeguarding these areas.

The Minister urged the area council chairpersons to ensure equitable distribution of the motorcycles to vigilante outfits operating within their respective jurisdictions. He reiterated the commitment of the FCT Administration to provide ongoing logistical support to the recipients, underscoring the importance of using the motorcycles exclusively for security purposes in rural areas.

Mr. Wike issued a stern warning against the misuse of motorcycles, prohibiting their commercial use and restricting their deployment to rural regions. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the motorcycles in the designated areas and not allowing them to be utilized within urban spaces. Encouraging the recipients to apply the vehicles effectively in combatting crime, he emphasized the importance of preventing their misuse or diversion from their intended purpose.

Assuring continuous support from the FCT Administration, Mr. Wike announced plans for the future presentation of patrol vehicles to further strengthen the fight against crime in the region. He reiterated his commitment to providing additional resources and assistance to the security agencies.

Acknowledging the presence of area council chairpersons and heads of security agencies at the event, Mr. Wike emphasized the collective responsibility of working towards bolstering security measures in the territory. He reassured the attendees of ongoing support and assistance from the FCT Administration, highlighting the collaborative efforts needed to ensure the safety and security of the nation’s capital.

In conclusion, the distribution of motorcycles to security outfits and area councils in the FCT represents a significant step towards enhancing security measures in the region. With a focus on effective utilization and strategic deployment of these resources, the initiative is poised to contribute towards creating a safer and more secure environment for residents and stakeholders in the nation’s capital.
