The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, met with a delegation from the Nigerian Law School (NLS), led by its Director-General, Prof. Isa Chiroma, in Abuja to discuss security measures at the NLS Abuja campus in Bwari, Abuja. During the meeting, Mr. Wike reassured the NLS management of maximum security at the campus, emphasizing the presence of heavy security in the Bwari Area Council where the campus is located.
Mr. Wike explained that the FCT Administration had deployed security personnel based on intelligence reports from security agencies to ensure the safety of residents and institutions in the area. He emphasized the significance of maintaining tight security within Bwari to prevent any incidents that could have adverse effects on the country and the FCT. Additionally, the minister expressed the Administration’s support for NLS and promised to consider their request for staff quarters’ construction and provision of vehicles.
Acknowledging the importance of supporting agencies in the FCT, Mr. Wike assured the NLS delegation of the Administration’s commitment to providing necessary assistance. He highlighted his personal affinity towards the legal profession and reiterated his willingness to assist the NLS whenever needed. Moreover, Mr. Wike directed the General Counsel of the FCT Administration to collaborate with the NLS management to incorporate the request for staff quarters into the FCTA’s 2024 budget and promised to allocate vehicles to the school as needed.
In response, Prof. Isa Chiroma expressed gratitude to the minister and called for the construction of staff quarters and the provision of vehicles for the Abuja campus. He informed Mr. Wike about his selection as one of the NLS’ awardees for their upcoming 60th Anniversary celebration. The visit aimed to congratulate the minister on his appointment and seek his support for the NLS campus in Abuja.
Overall, the meeting between the FCT Minister and the NLS delegation underscored the importance of security cooperation and mutual support between institutions for the benefit of residents and stakeholders in the region.
