Former governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Fashola, has revealed why some members of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet were unhappy with Prof. Isa Ali Pantami, the former minister of communication and digital economy. Fashola explained that Pantami’s dedication to getting things right at all times and ensuring that every detail was correct made him annoying to some people in Buhari’s cabinet. He added that Pantami was not corrupt and was dedicated to his job, which led to him attracting a lot of enemies due to his perfectionist approach.

Fashola made this revelation on Wednesday, at the public presentation of a 341-page book titled ‘A Scholar’s Journey: Navigating Academia’, written by Prof. Pantami. The former governor, who served alongside Pantami in the Buhari cabinet, spoke highly of Pantami’s passion, attention to detail, and commitment to the compliance of a good cause. He stated that Pantami’s dedication to having every ‘T’ and ‘I’ crossed and dotted in every document was almost annoying for some people, but his records are better off for the ‘Pantami effect’.

Furthermore, Pantami, who supervised the National Identification Number (NIN)-SIM policy during the Buhari administration, has reiterated that the failure to utilize the NIN-SIM policy has encouraged criminality, especially kidnapping in the country. Pantami maintained that the problem was not with the policy but the failure of relevant institutions to utilize it now.

Additionally, Fashola addressed rumors surrounding his pension from the Lagos state government, stating that despite reports that he was receiving billions of naira as pension, he only received N577,000 monthly. This clarification was made during an appearance on Arise TV’s programme Perspective.

In conclusion, Fashola’s revelation sheds light on the challenges faced by Pantami during his tenure as the minister of communication and digital economy, highlighting his dedication to excellence and adherence to ethical standards, as well as his contributions to important policies during the Buhari administration.
