The Delta State Government has emphasized its dedication to implementing policies that promote public health and preventive care. In a message to the people of the state in commemoration of the 2024 World Health Day with the theme “My Health, My Right”, State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring access to quality healthcare services for every citizen without discrimination. World Health Day is observed annually on the 7th of April.
Dr. Onojaeme highlighted the government’s efforts to address the shortage of health personnel in government-owned hospitals caused by brain drain. The administration of Governor Oborevwori recently initiated the recruitment and deployment of more doctors and nurses to the 66 secondary health facilities in the State. The recruitment process for other health personnel is also nearing completion. Additionally, the Ministry of Health has procured and distributed hospital equipment to secondary and primary healthcare facilities and provided capacity-building training to healthcare workers across the State.
The Commissioner emphasized the Ministry’s focus on improving Primary Health Care Centers, which play a critical role in community diagnosis and treatment. Efforts are being made to enhance service delivery in all healthcare facilities in the State. Dr. Onojaeme reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting health as a fundamental human right, advocating for policies that prioritize health equity, and empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
The Delta State Ministry of Health recognizes the importance of prioritizing health as a basic human right and is implementing the ONE HEALTH approach as a key strategy alongside other high-impact interventions.
