The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, recently praised the Bola Tinubu administration for transforming Abuja into a bustling construction site. Wike made these remarks during a visit by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery.

Wike highlighted the significant boost in construction and development activities in Abuja since the advent of the Tinubu-led government. He acknowledged that prior to the current administration, Abuja appeared stagnant, with residents complaining of a lack of progress and development in the city.

However, under the current administration, Wike proudly proclaimed that Abuja has been transformed into a construction hub, especially in terms of road infrastructure. He emphasized the administration’s commitment to President’s “Renewed Hope” agenda and lauded the progress made in enhancing security in the region.

The minister commended the efforts of security agencies, particularly the police, in combating criminal activities and reducing the level of insecurity in Abuja. He attributed the success to the logistical support provided to the security agencies, which facilitated their operations in apprehending criminals, including kidnappers.

Wike outlined the key priority areas of the FCT administration as job creation, tourism, and agriculture. He expressed readiness to collaborate with investors to drive growth in the tourism and agricultural sectors, thereby generating employment opportunities for the youth.

Recognizing the importance of addressing security challenges and fostering a conducive environment for investment, Wike emphasized the interconnectedness of security, job creation, and prosperity. He underscored the administration’s focus on agriculture and security as critical pillars for sustainable development in the region.

The visit by the British High Commissioner underscored the United Kingdom’s commitment to deepening engagement with the Nigerian government. Montgomery highlighted recent partnerships between the UK and Nigeria in defense, security, and trade, as well as technical support for the development of the Abuja Industrial Park.

Montgomery commended efforts to enhance the agriculture value chain and create job opportunities for Nigerian youths through initiatives like the Abuja Industrial Park. He emphasized the importance of the interplay between security, job creation, and prosperity for long-term economic growth and stability.

Overall, the discussions between Wike and Montgomery reflected a shared commitment to advancing development priorities in Abuja, with a focus on sustainable growth, job creation, and security. The collaboration between Nigeria and the UK signals a concerted effort to foster economic prosperity and stability in the region.
