The National Working Committee of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, recently addressed the issue of the purported suspension of Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano from the party. The Acting National Chairman, Dr. Ahmed Ajuji, clarified in an interview that there was no valid reason for the party to suspend Yusuf. He emphasized that Gov. Yusuf is a respected member of the NNPP and a distinguished representative of the party in Kano State, showcasing exceptional leadership and accomplishments that bring pride to the party. Therefore, the NNPP did not suspend the governor, as claimed by some individuals.
Dr. Ajuji criticized those who alleged the suspension of Yusuf for attending the NNPP national convention, referring to them as political comedians, hirelings, and clowns seeking attention. He highlighted their failed attempts to undermine Yusuf’s election through legal challenges and false claims, noting that the Supreme Court ultimately ruled in favor of Yusuf, affirming his legitimacy as an NNPP member.
The Acting National Chairman also mentioned the ongoing legal battles instigated by the same group against the party’s leadership, including attempts to disrupt crucial meetings such as the NEC meeting and the National Convention. Despite their efforts, the court has consistently dismissed their suits and even instructed them to refrain from acting as party members, but they persist in their disruptive actions.
Dr. Ajuji attributed the expelled members’ grievances to the NNPP’s success in securing various elective positions, including governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly seats. He noted that the party’s electoral progress underlines its commitment to genuine democracy, contrasting with past practices of trading positions for personal gain.
Furthermore, Dr. Ajuji affirmed the NNPP’s unity and determination to uphold democracy in Nigeria, citing Gov. Yusuf’s governance in Kano State as a prime example of good leadership.
