The Directorate of Road Traffic Services, DRTS, has clarified that they do not issue insurance documents to motorists in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT. The Head of Public Relations and Enlightenment, Kalu Emetu, emphasized this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja. There seems to be a misconception among some individuals that DRTS is responsible for issuing insurance documents to motorists in the FCT, but Mr. Emetu debunked this notion.

He explained that the primary responsibility of DRTS is to ensure that motorists have at least a third-party insurance cover as required by law. The issuance of insurance documents is not within the scope of their responsibilities, and any personnel claiming to provide such documents are acting beyond their authority. Mr. Emetu encouraged the public to report any such misconduct so that the issue can be addressed promptly.

It is common for insurance companies to be present at the DRTS office, as they understand that many motorists visit to renew their vehicle particulars. These insurance companies engage with motorists at the office, offering them the necessary insurance documents for their vehicles. While DRTS personnel may facilitate the process by connecting motorists with insurance companies, they do not directly issue insurance documents themselves.

Mr. Emetu advised FCT residents to consider using the online platform at www.drtsselfservice.org.ng to renew their vehicle documents. This online option helps eliminate human interference and reduces the risk of manipulation within the system. He also recommended that individuals who prefer to use DRTS officers for their transactions should choose someone they trust to handle the process.

The current management of the directorate is dedicated to serving Nigerians with sincerity and integrity. Mr. Emetu assured the public that DRTS is committed to providing better services and upholding the highest standards of professionalism.

In conclusion, it is important for motorists in the FCT to be aware of the proper procedures for obtaining insurance documents and renewing their vehicle particulars. By understanding the roles and responsibilities of DRTS and insurance companies, individuals can ensure a smooth and legitimate process for managing their vehicle documentation. Reporting any irregularities or fraudulent activities is crucial in maintaining the integrity of the system and protecting the interests of motorists in the FCT.
