The Katsina State Government made it clear on Wednesday that it has not taken out any new loans since assuming office on May 29. This statement was in response to a report by the Debt Management Office (DMO) which suggested that the state, along with several others in the country, had acquired fresh loans.
The Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Dikko Radda, Ibrahim Kaula-Mohammed, issued a statement in Katsina, refuting the claims made by the DMO. He emphasized that the current government has been focused on repaying existing loans that were obtained by previous administrations.
According to Kaula-Mohammed, the present All Progressives Congress (APC) government in Katsina has not taken on any new loans. He clarified that while the government may consider borrowing in the future to improve the well-being of its citizens, there are currently no plans to do so.
The government expressed appreciation for the media’s role in keeping the public informed about its activities. Kaula-Mohammed urged the media and the public to continue supporting the administration in its efforts to implement projects that will enhance the quality of life for the people of Katsina.
It is important to note that responsible borrowing can be a strategic tool for governments to fund development projects and improve infrastructure. However, it is crucial for governments to manage their debt levels effectively to ensure long-term financial stability and sustainability.
Katsina State, like many other states in Nigeria, faces various challenges that require adequate funding and resources to address. The government’s commitment to prudent financial management and transparency in its borrowing activities is essential to ensure that borrowed funds are effectively utilized for the benefit of the state and its residents.
In conclusion, while the Katsina State Government has not taken on any new loans recently, it remains open to borrowing in the future for developmental purposes. The government’s focus on repaying existing loans and its commitment to providing meaningful projects for the people demonstrate a responsible approach to financial management. By working together with the media and the public, the government aims to improve the standard of living for all citizens of Katsina.
