The Federal Government launched the “Light Up Nigeria Project” in the South-East region to provide electricity across the country. Vice President Sen. Kashim Shettima flagged off the project in Enugu during the South East Business roundtable, emphasizing the government’s commitment to expanding the industrial sector.

This project is a strategic collaboration with the Nigeria Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) and other partners to address the power supply challenges that have hindered the economy. Shettima, who chairs the NDPHC Board of Directors, highlighted the project’s significance in boosting the nation’s economy, supporting industries, and improving power supply in Nigeria.

Describing the Southeast as the “industrial power of the country,” the Vice President expressed President Tinubu’s dedication to this project, recognizing the region’s enterprising nature and its vital role in the nation. He assured that the government’s aim is to enhance Nigeria’s economy and provide a solution to the ongoing power supply issues.

The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, reiterated the government’s determination to achieve the project’s objectives, which include resolving challenges in the electricity supply industry since privatization. Despite substantial investments in the sector, power supply has continued to deteriorate, with the country generating only 4000 megawatts of electricity.

The Managing Director of NDPHC, Mr. Chinedu Ugbo, emphasized the historical significance of the project in addressing Nigeria’s electricity challenges. The initiative demonstrates President Tinubu’s administration and NDPHC’s commitment to providing reliable and sustainable solutions to the country’s electricity issues, starting with affordable power supply to industries.

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State welcomed the project as a new dawn for power and industrialization in the South East. He commended the Federal Government and NDPHC for their efforts and encouraged industrialists in the region to participate in the project. Governor Mbah assured continued support for industrialists and private investors in the state to complement the benefits of the Light Up Nigeria Project.

The project aims to bring light to every part of Nigeria, even the remotest areas. During the Business Roundtable, industrialists had the opportunity to interact with the Vice President on their power-related challenges. Governors Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, and Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra States, along with other prominent personalities and government officials, attended the event in the Southeast region.

Overall, the Light Up Nigeria Project signifies a transformative journey towards improving power supply, boosting industries, and enhancing economic growth across the country. Through strategic collaborations and government initiatives, the aim is to address long-standing power challenges and create a sustainable electricity solution for Nigeria’s development.
