Governor Usman Ododo has taken over as the new leader of Kogi state, officially ending Yahaya Bello’s eight-year tenure. The handover of power from Governor Bello to Ododo took place at the Muhammadu Buhari Square, Lokoja on Saturday, January 27. A notable event during the ceremony was the act of prostration by Ododo’s deputy, Salifu Oyibo, towards his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, immediately after taking the oath of office. This act caught the attention of many people online, causing the video to go viral.

Salifu Oyibo was sworn in shortly before the new governor, Usman Ododo, as reported by The Punch. The act of prostration by Oyibo drew varied reactions from Nigerians, with many expressing their thoughts on the development. Some commented that they perceived this as a continuation of Yahaya Bello’s rule, while others saw the act as fraudulent. It also spurred the opinion that there could be conflicts in the future.

Yahaya Bello’s departure from the leadership position of Kogi state was confirmed, and Governor Usman Ododo was sworn in as his successor. The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Ododo, had emerged as the winner of the November 11 governorship election in Kogi, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Notable personalities such as Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, and immediate past Governor Yahaya Bello were present at the handover ceremony.

In a separate development, the former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Dino Melaye, returned to Nigeria after spending the Christmas holiday in Dubai, UAE. This followed his loss in the election to Ododo. Flaunting his arrival with a video, Dino Melaye playfully addressed his “babes and side chicks,” indicating his return to Nigeria.
