The Alumni Association of the Kwara State Polytechnic Worldwide, in collaboration with other stakeholders of the state government-owned institution, have issued a call for all property owners and private developers situated on the institution’s land to reach out to the state Geographic Information Science (GIS) to confirm the status of their property.

A stakeholders’ meeting was convened to address the issue of encroachment on the polytechnic’s land. The meeting saw the participation of the management of the polytechnic, traditional institutions, Kwara State Geographic Information Science, Students Union Government (SUG), media executives, and the host, the alumni association of the institution.

Following a tour of the encroached land areas of the institution, namely Oke Aponle, Ara, Gatta, Boyi, Oke Ose, Akuro, Rector’s Quarters, proposed Polytechnic Farm, among others, a communiqué was released at the conclusion of the stakeholders’ meeting. The communiqué affirmed that the land had been legally acquired with compensation paid to the original landowners.

The Chairman of the communique drafting committee, James Ogunlakin, emphasized that property owners must have their records with the Kwara state GIS to validate their ownership of the land. Any property owner with no record with the GIS implies they do not have any property on the land.

A peaceful resolution of the matter was advocated in the communiqué, highlighting the importance of resolving the issue amicably. Furthermore, it was stated that no part of the polytechnic land is available for sale between the polytechnic land and Dangiwa community in the Oke Ose area. The communiqué also mandated that all ongoing private construction works on the polytechnic land be halted with immediate effect.

During the stakeholders’ meeting held at the Admiral Mohammed Alabi Lawal auditorium, Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, the protem president of the Kwara State Polytechnic Worldwide Alumni, Engineer Abu Salami, addressed the encroachment issue. He expressed concerns over the transition from land encroachment to land grabbing by groups opposing the institution.

Engineer Abu Salami challenged claimants to provide any authorization documents for the construction of structures on the disputed land, for which the Kwara State Government had compensated the original owners. He asserted the readiness of the alumni and students to present evidence against any wrongful claims.

The protem president highlighted the need for the Kwara State Government, Ilorin Emirate, and the Ilorin community to resolve the issue and ensure the rightful ownership of the polytechnic land. Urging for peace within the Polytechnic environment, he called for the official transfer of ownership from the traditional aborigines to Kwara State Polytechnic.

In conclusion, the stakeholders’ meeting aimed to address the encroachment issue on the polytechnic’s land and urged all parties involved to seek a peaceful resolution to the matter. The alumni association and stakeholders are committed to safeguarding the institution’s land and ensuring its rightful ownership.
