The federal government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, has made it clear that no ransom was paid for the release of the kidnapped Kaduna schoolchildren. This clarification was given by Mohammed Idris, the minister of information and orientation, after a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja on Monday. The government’s statement comes on the heels of the military’s revelation of how the children were rescued in Zamfara state.

Idris emphasized that no ransom was paid for the release of the schoolchildren and expressed the government’s commitment to ensuring their safe return. President Tinubu also expressed gratitude to the national security adviser, service chiefs, and other individuals involved in the operation to secure the release of the students.

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) confirmed the successful rescue of the 137 schoolchildren, consisting of 76 females and 61 males. The operation took place in Zamfara, another northwest state in Nigeria, in collaboration with local vigilantes. Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna state also announced the release of the schoolchildren and thanked President Tinubu for overseeing the rescue operation.

However, the issue of kidnapping continues to plague Kaduna state, with bandits recently attacking the Buda community in the Kajuru local government area and abducting 61 people. Dauda Kajuru, a resident of the community, confirmed the attack, highlighting the increasing activities of bandits in the area since the removal of General Tega as the army commander.

Despite these challenges, the federal government remains steadfast in its efforts to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians. The government’s stance against paying ransom for the release of kidnapped individuals underscores its commitment to tackling insecurity in the country.

As the nation continues to grapple with the scourge of kidnapping and banditry, cooperation between security forces, local communities, and government agencies will be crucial in addressing these threats. President Tinubu’s administration is committed to working tirelessly to protect the lives and property of all citizens, and measures are being put in place to address the root causes of insecurity in the country.

In conclusion, the federal government’s assurance that no ransom was paid for the release of the Kaduna schoolchildren is a testament to its unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of all Nigerians. By working together and remaining vigilant, we can overcome the challenges posed by insecurity and create a safer and more secure environment for all.
