Senator David Umahi, Minister of Works, and Senator Aminu Tambuwal (PDP-Sokoto), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Housing, recently conducted an inspection of the newly constructed BUA Cement’s fifth plant in Sokoto State. This visit took place as part of their oversight responsibilities to ensure the quality and progress of infrastructure projects in the country.

During his visit to Sokoto, Senator Umahi also inspected the reconstruction of a 372 km dual road from Sokoto to Zaria in Kaduna State. He used the opportunity to urge BUA Cement’s management to consider reducing the prices of cement in the market. The senator emphasized the government’s commitment to stabilizing the value of the Naira and assured the public that efforts were being made to address the rising costs of essential commodities.

In a related development, Senator Umahi disclosed that President Bola Tinubu had expressed deep concern over the escalating prices of commodities, including cement. The President reportedly directed cement companies to revert to the previous prices during a meeting with manufacturers. Senator Umahi encouraged the companies to comply with the President’s directive, as it would support the government’s initiatives such as the massive housing program and the national agenda for concrete roads.

The visit to the BUA Cement’s fifth plant also drew commendation from Senator Umahi, who praised the company’s commitment and expressed confidence in the quality of the product. He highlighted the alignment of BUA Cement’s objectives with those of the government, signaling a positive collaboration in meeting the country’s infrastructure needs.

Senator Aminu Tambuwal also weighed in on the importance of cement production in the housing sector, lauding the partnership between the government and BUA Cement. He expressed his belief that this collaboration would greatly support the Federal Government’s efforts to provide affordable housing and bridge the significant housing gap in the country. Senator Tambuwal congratulated BUA for its dedication, acknowledging its contribution to the government’s initiatives in the housing sector.

Yusuf Binji, the Managing Director of BUA, provided further insights into the potential impact of the fifth plant on cement production. He assured that the new plant would significantly increase the daily cement production, leading to lower market prices. Mr. Binji stated that the fifth plant would add 165 trucks to the daily production capacity of BUA Cement, which would further drive down the prices of the product in the market.

In conclusion, the inspection of BUA Cement’s fifth plant in Sokoto State showcased the commitment of government officials and industry leaders to drive progress in the infrastructure and housing sectors. The collaborative efforts between the government and BUA Cement are essential in achieving the goal of providing affordable housing and improving the overall infrastructure landscape in Nigeria.
