Nigeria has turned to Uganda’s pharmaceutical sector to ease the sickle-cell disease (SCD) burden in the West African country.
The Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Nigerian Federation, Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, said his country carries the highest burden of the inherited blood disorder in the world.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) says an estimated 7.74 million people were living with sickle-cell disease globally in 2021, with Nigeria having the highest population of sickle-cell sufferers worldwide and an estimated 150,000 newborns…
