President Bola Tinubu is gearing up to commission approximately 11 projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to celebrate his one year in office. This revelation was made by the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, during a recent media chat. Wike, who is a prominent figure in the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), assured that there are more projects for the president to commission.

Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, and Wike, who was appointed three months later by the president, has been instrumental in overseeing the development and execution of various projects in the FCT.

During the media chat, Wike listed some of the projects that Tinubu will commission as part of the one-year celebration. These projects include the Federal Secretariat (First Phase), Abuja Metro Line, Southern Parkway, Roads B6 and B12, Vice President’s official residence, Wuye Interchange, Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), Northern Parkway (N20), Guzape Lot 2, Guzape Diplomatic Area, and five access roads to the Abuja train stations.

The relationship between Wike and Tinubu started to gain public attention amidst the crisis within the PDP leading up to the 2023 election. Wike, along with four other governors known as the G5, opposed the presidential bid of the PDP, citing the marginalization of the southern bloc within the party.

The call to designate Wike as the governor of the FCT has been made by the Cabul Network, a development organization. This request is based on the Supreme Court judgment regarding the outcome of the 2023 presidential election petition. John Harry, the spokesperson for the group, supports Wike’s plea for access to security votes similar to other governors in Nigeria to combat insecurity in Abuja.

In conclusion, President Bola Tinubu’s upcoming commissioning of the projects in the FCT signifies a significant milestone in his one-year tenure. The collaboration between Tinubu and Wike reflects a strategic approach to governance and development in the capital territory. As the projects are unveiled and inaugurated, they are expected to contribute to the overall growth and enhancement of the FCT’s infrastructure and services.
