The Bola Tinubu-led federal government has rebuked governors from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and challenged them to account for their increased federal allocations to Nigerians. The statement was made in response to the PDP governors’ allegations blaming the administration for economic hardship in the country.

According to the minister of information and orientation, Muhammed Idris, the opposition governors played around the gallery rather than taking their leadership role as members of the economic council. The administration accused the PDP governors of owing salaries and pensions despite the increased allocation and failing to make significant strides in boosting agriculture in their states. The administration also criticized the governors for blaming the federal government instead of utilizing the increased revenue to improve the lives of Nigerians in their respective states.

The criticism came after the PDP governors alleged that President Tinubu’s economic policies had caused hardship and hunger in the country. The opposition governors made the claim at the end of their board of trustee meeting in Abuja, with Governor Bala Muhammed of Bauchi state, the chairman of the PDP governors, stating that there appeared to be no good governance in the country.

In response, President Tinubu, through the minister of information and national orientation, Mohammed Idris, called out the PDP governors for manipulating facts and misinforming Nigerians about the country’s true state of affairs. The administration pointed out that since President Tinubu assumed office, the revenue available to the three tiers of government has more than doubled, and all 36 states, including the 774 local governments, have been receiving significantly larger allocations.

The administration called on Nigerians to question the PDP governors regarding their utilization of the increased revenue to improve the lives of Nigerians in their respective states. This statement was supported by a tweet from the ministry of information, emphasizing the need for opposition politicians to play politics within the bounds of truth and fidelity to facts.

In summary, the Bola Tinubu-led federal government has defended its economic policies and criticized the PDP governors for failing to utilize their increased federal allocations to address the economic challenges faced by Nigerians. The government called for accountability and responsible leadership from the governors, urging them to prioritize the welfare and development of their states.
