President Bola Tinubu has recently made an important decision by appointing four Nigerian professionals as Executive Directors of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN). This decision, announced by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, is aimed at enhancing the quality and quantity of electric power transmitted across the nation’s power grid. The appointed individuals will serve in their respective roles for a renewable term of four years.

The newly appointed Executive Directors are Oluwagbenga Ajiboye, who will serve as the Executive Director of the Transmission Service Provider, and Nafisatu Asabe-Ali, who will take on the role of Executive Director of Independent System Operations. Additionally, Ogini Chukwuka has been appointed as the Executive Director of Finance and Accounts, while Abiodun Afolabi will serve as the Executive Director of Human Resources and Corporate Services.

These appointments were made based on the appointees’ strength of experience, level of competence, qualifications, character, and dedication. President Tinubu expects the new appointees to fully commit themselves to realizing his administration’s innovative and expansive energy vision, as well as delivering excellent service to the Nigerian people.

TCN was established from the merger of the Transmission and Operations sectors on April 1, 2004, following the dissolution of the National Electric Power Authority. It was officially incorporated in November 2005 and subsequently issued a transmission license on July 1, 2006. Later, on June 10, 2013, TCN was issued two additional licenses for electricity transmission and system operations.

President Tinubu’s focus on enhancing the energy sector through these appointments demonstrates his commitment to improving the country’s power infrastructure and meeting the energy needs of the Nigerian population. The appointees are expected to play a crucial role in achieving these goals and ensuring the efficient transmission of electricity across the nation.

In conclusion, President Tinubu’s appointment of these four professionals as Executive Directors of TCN marks a significant step towards enhancing Nigeria’s power sector. It is a testament to his administration’s dedication to improving the quality and quantity of electric power transmitted across the country. The new appointees are now entrusted with the important task of driving innovation, efficiency, and excellence in the nation’s energy transmission operations.
