Fresh trouble is looming for ministers in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet who are not delivering on his mandate. Sources close to the presidency revealed that the Nigerian leader is set to drop underperforming ministers. It has been reported that Tinubu is planning to launch a platform that will allow Nigerians to give feedback on the assessment of each minister’s performance.
As President Tinubu approaches his first year in office, he is set to commence a three-step approach for assessing his ministers and heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). The objective is to provide a platform for the public to make inputs on which ministers should be retained and those that may be asked to leave.
The platform will enable Nigerians to provide feedback on their assessment of each minister’s performance based on the targets set by President Tinubu. This feedback will be crucial in determining which ministers stay and which ones will leave the cabinet due to poor performance.
According to sources at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu was initially set to launch the platform on March 19, but it has been postponed to the following week to allow the special adviser on policy coordination to complete the process.
The decision to drop underperforming ministers will be carried out in three steps. The first step will involve the public’s assessment, followed by an evaluation by the policy coordination office, and finally, a group of consultants will give their assessments on the ministers’ performance.
President Tinubu has also been advised to drop non-performing security chiefs by the forum of All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmen. Following the high rate of kidnapping and insecurity in the country, the forum stressed the importance of holding security chiefs accountable for their performance.
In conclusion, President Tinubu’s plan to assess and potentially remove underperforming ministers is a bold step towards ensuring accountability and effectiveness in his government. By allowing the public to provide feedback and implementing a thorough evaluation process, Tinubu is demonstrating his commitment to delivering on his mandate and improving governance in Nigeria.
