Two revered traditional rulers were reportedly killed by unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in Ekiti State. The slain traditional rulers were identified as the Elesun of Esun, Oba Babatunde Ogunsakin, and the Olumojo of Imojo, Oba Samuel Olatunji.

They were killed while on their way from Kogi, and another traditional ruler, Alara of Ara-Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, who was in the same vehicle, managed to escape the attack. The incident has escalated tensions in Ekiti State, particularly in Ikole Local Government Area where the attack occurred.

The monarchs were reportedly ambushed and killed by the armed attackers along Ipao-Irele-Oke Ako while returning from Ogbe, a neighboring town in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State. It was revealed that the vehicle carrying the three monarchs was accosted, resulting in the death of Oba Ogunsakin and Oba Olatunji. Meanwhile, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, the Alara of Ara-Ekiti, managed to flee from the scene.

Confirming the tragic incident, the chairman of the Ajoni Local Council Development Area, Micheal Ogungbemi, expressed deep sorrow over the killing of the respected traditional rulers. He further disclosed that measures had been put in place to mobilize local security outfits, including the Amotekun corps, to comb the forest and arrest the perpetrators.

The alarming development in Ekiti State marks another incident of insecurity and violence that has plagued the country in recent times. The incident has led to increased fear and concern among the residents, with local authorities working towards restoring safety and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
