Tea makers, also known as “Mai shayi”, are facing a challenge in their business due to the rising prices of Indomie noodles, leading to a decrease in patronage. These tea makers, mostly operated by Hausa men in makeshift kiosks in Abuja, are experiencing a decline in customers as the cost of Indomie instant noodles continues to soar.

The market survey conducted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) revealed that the prices of Indomie noodles have skyrocketed within a short period. A carton of Indomie standard pack, which contains 40 pieces, is being sold for between N10,500 to N11,500. The Super Pack, with 40 packs, is priced between N17,800 to N18,700, while the Hungry Man size, containing 24 packs, is sold for N16,800 to N17,500. Individual packets of Indomie range from N300 for the standard size to N700 for the Hungry Man size.

The increase in prices has impacted the business of tea makers, as customers are finding it difficult to afford their favorite noodles. This has resulted in a decrease in patronage for the tea makers, with many customers expressing their inability to purchase Indomie like before. Some customers have even reduced the quantity they buy, opting for cheaper alternatives.

Mai shayis across different areas in Abuja have noticed a significant drop in their sales due to the price increase of Indomie. Some tea makers mentioned that they have been forced to raise their prices, making it challenging for their customers to afford the noodles. This situation has led to a reduction in profits for the tea makers, as their customer base dwindles.

Customers, including regular buyers like Mohammed Hassan and Azeez Lamidi, have expressed their concerns about the escalating prices of Indomie. Many have had to cut down on their purchases or look for more affordable options due to the high cost of the noodles. Retailers, wholesalers, and even consumers like Omozele Osagie and Mr. TJ Onoja are feeling the pinch of the price increase, affecting their food choices and budget.

The continuous rise in the price of Indomie has not only impacted the tea makers but also the overall food consumption patterns of individuals. As food items become more expensive, people are forced to make adjustments in their spending habits, opting for more economical choices.

In conclusion, the increase in the price of Indomie noodles has had a ripple effect on tea makers, retailers, wholesalers, and consumers in Abuja. The struggle to afford this popular fast food has resulted in a decline in patronage for tea makers and a shift in consumer behavior towards more affordable food options. As prices continue to rise, individuals are faced with the challenge of balancing their food preferences with their budget constraints.
