Maryam Suleiman, the suspended women leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna state, has come forward to share her side of the story regarding her recent ordeal. In a recent interview, she confidently stated that she has no regrets over her criticisms of the current Kaduna state government led by Uba Sani. The APC women leader’s suspension came after she spoke out against Governor Sani’s claim that Mallam Nasir El-Rufai had left Kaduna state in significant debt.

In an exclusive telephone interview with The Punch on April 1, Suleiman described her suspension by the party for criticizing the governor as an act of God, emphasizing that she remains unfazed by the situation. She expressed her feelings without hesitation, stating that she stands by her decision to speak out against Governor Sani.

The suspension of Maryam Suleiman was announced by the Kaduna state APC leadership on Sunday, following her defense of former governor Nasir El-Rufai. Her criticism was in response to Governor Sani’s statement that his administration inherited a substantial debt profile from El-Rufai’s government, including a debt of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities.

Despite the suspension, Maryam Suleiman remains unbothered and resolute in her stance. She declared that she had not officially received any notice of her suspension from the party as she only became aware of it through social media. Suleiman asserted that she stands by the truth she spoke in a viral video and labeled Governor Sani’s actions as a clear act of betrayal.

In the midst of these political developments, President Bola Tinubu’s camp, led by national security adviser Nuhu Ribadu, paid a visit to El-Rufai. The visit sparked speculation that El-Rufai might be considering leaving the APC for undisclosed reasons. This visit generated mixed reactions from Nigerians, who closely monitored the unfolding political events in the country.

The controversy surrounding Maryam Suleiman’s suspension sheds light on the internal dynamics within the APC in Kaduna state. As the embattled women leader stands by her principles and refuses to back down, the political landscape in the state continues to evolve. The unfolding events serve as a reminder of the complexities and tensions within political parties and movements in Nigeria.
