The Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on the Muslim Ummah to begin searching for the crescent of Ramadan 1445 AH starting from Sunday. In a statement signed by Prof. Sambo Janaidu, the chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs at the Sultanate Council Sokoto, the directive was made public on Saturday.

According to the statement, Sunday, March 10th, corresponding to the 29th day of Sha’aban 1445 AH, has been identified as the day to look for the new moon of Ramadan 1445 AH. Muslims are urged to start their search for the new moon on Sunday and report any sightings to the nearest District or Village Head for communication to the Sultan.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and holds great significance for Muslims around the world. It is a month-long period of fasting, considered one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The observance of Ramadan involves abstaining from food, drink, and other physical needs from dawn to sunset, while also focusing on prayer, reflection, and acts of charity.

The Sultan extended prayers to Allah for continued support to all Muslims in fulfilling their religious obligations during the holy month of Ramadan. This period is marked by increased devotion, worship, and reflection for Muslims, culminating in the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, the festival that marks the end of Ramadan.

As Muslims prepare for the sacred month of Ramadan, they are reminded of the importance of self-discipline, spiritual growth, and acts of compassion towards others. The fasting during Ramadan serves as a reminder of the blessings of sustenance and the need for empathy towards those who are less fortunate. It is a time for introspection, gratitude, and renewed dedication to one’s faith.

The announcement by the Sultan serves as a reminder for Muslims to prepare for the upcoming month of Ramadan, a time of spiritual renewal, community bonding, and increased devotion to Allah. As the Ummah begins their search for the new moon, they are encouraged to embrace the teachings of Islam, seek forgiveness, and strive to attain the blessings and rewards of this sacred month.

In conclusion, the call to search for the crescent of Ramadan marks the beginning of preparations for a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and spiritual growth for Muslims worldwide. May this Ramadan bring peace, blessings, and prosperity to all those observing this sacred month.
