Tony Okocha, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has leveled serious allegations against Governor Siminialayi Fubara, accusing him of misappropriating state funds for frivolous spending rather than focusing on the development of the state. Okocha made these accusations during a press briefing in Port Harcourt, where he criticized the lack of vision in Fubara’s administration over the last 10 months.

According to Okocha, the APC in Rivers has observed a lack of direction in Fubara’s governance, dubbing it “visionless.” He condemned the excessive spending on thanksgiving ceremonies across all local government areas in the state, emphasizing the need for concrete development initiatives instead. Okocha highlighted the importance of continuity in government projects, referencing the successful implementation of plans by the current governor of Akwa Ibom State.

The APC Chairman pointed out the deviation from the road infrastructure plans laid out by Fubara’s predecessors, noting a lack of new road projects besides the ring road initiated by the former governor, Nyesom Wike. Okocha called for transparency in the transformation of Songai farm and rehabilitation of the cassava plant, questioning their impact on good governance in Rivers State.

Regarding the economic challenges faced by the country, Okocha attributed them to a global phenomenon rather than leadership failure. He praised President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to alleviate suffering by removing the fuel subsidy and reallocating the funds to states to mitigate the effects of hardship. Okocha highlighted the importance of state governments providing palliatives to support their citizens during challenging times, particularly with the increased monthly allocation from the Federal Government.

Furthermore, Okocha urged Governor Fubara to prioritize conducting local government elections as required by the constitution. He emphasized the need for the State Executive Council (SEC) to be constituted and advised against running the state single-handedly without the State Assembly, especially considering the majority representation of APC members.

In conclusion, Okocha’s allegations against Governor Fubara shed light on the contentious issues surrounding governance and development in Rivers State. The call for accountability, transparency, and continuity in government projects resonates with the need for responsible leadership to drive meaningful progress and uplift the welfare of the people. As the political landscape in Rivers continues to evolve, the voices of opposition leaders like Okocha serve as a reminder of the importance of checks and balances in ensuring effective governance and development.
