Former Benue State Governor, Senator Gabriel Suswam has announced his candidacy for the national chairmanship of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with the aim of completing the tenure of ousted Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, a position that rightfully belongs to Benue and the North Central region of Nigeria.

In a meeting with the Benue North East PDP expanded caucus in Katsina-Ala, Suswam shared his intentions to run for the leadership position. He mentioned that he has consulted with and received the blessings of key party leaders in the state, including former governor Samuel Ortom, Senator David Mark, Senator Abba Moro, and the State Working Committee (SWC) of the PDP.

Suswam highlighted the fact that according to the party’s constitution and historical precedence, the North Central region, particularly Benue, has the rightful claim to complete the tenure of Senator Iyorchia Ayu, whose term was prematurely ended by a court ruling.

With a strong commitment to the PDP and a track record of supporting the party, Suswam expressed his readiness to foster unity within the party and mobilize support ahead of the 2023 elections. He called on all party members to set aside past differences from previous elections and come together as a united front to advance the party’s agenda, as he believes that the PDP remains the most viable platform to lead Nigeria towards a brighter future.

Support for Suswam’s candidacy was voiced by prominent party members present at the meeting, including Chief Mrs. Margaret Icheen, the PDP’s governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections, Rt. Hon. Titus Uba, the North Central secretary of the PDP, Hon. Maurice Tsav, and others.

In the quest for the national chairmanship of the PDP, Senator Gabriel Suswam is positioning himself as a candidate dedicated to upholding the principles of the party and advancing the interests of Benue and the North Central region within the political landscape of Nigeria. His candidacy represents a push for continuity and representation of a region that has historically been underrepresented in key leadership positions.

As the race for the national chairmanship unfolds, Suswam’s message of unity, inclusivity, and party loyalty resonates with the broader PDP community in Benue and beyond. With notable endorsements and a clear vision for the party’s future, Senator Gabriel Suswam emerges as a contender committed to steering the PDP towards success in the upcoming electoral cycle.
