The country’s wrestlers and badminton stars stepped up to the plate and dominated the competition, showcasing their talents for the world to see.
The gold rush began with the men’s badminton event, where African champion Anuoluwapo Opeyori faced off against his compatriot, Godwin Olofua. In a closely contested match, Opeyori emerged victorious with a score of 2-1 (19-21, 21-17, 21-15), securing both the gold and silver medals for Team Nigeria.

Christiana Ogunsanya followed suit by clinching the 53kg gold, while African champion Odunayo Adekuoroye successfully defended her 57kg title. Blessing Oborodudu, a silver medallist at the Japan 2020 Olympics, added to the gold medal collection, bringing the country’s total gold count to five.
With a total of five gold, four silver, and two bronze medals, Team Nigeria’s impressive performance has propelled them to the second position in the overall medal standings. They are currently behind Egypt, who leads with a total of 23 medals (13 gold, four silver, and six bronze). Algeria occupies the third spot with 15 medals (three gold, three silver, and nine bronze), while Morocco sits in fourth place with nine medals (two gold, four silver, and three bronze).
