Former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, has spoken out against the suggestion made by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, for Governor Abba Yusuf and presidential candidate of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, to join the APC. Shekarau described this call as unnecessary and advocated for peaceful coexistence in Kano State.

During a stakeholders’ meeting last week, Ganduje had extended an invitation to Kwankwaso and Governor Yusuf to leave NNPP and join the APC. In response to this, Shekarau expressed his belief that it was unnecessary for Ganduje to make such an invitation. Instead, he suggested that Ganduje should have called for peace and unity among the people of Kano, regardless of their political affiliations.

In a statement, Shekarau conveyed his perspective on the situation, stating, “My brother, Ganduje came to Kano and invited the governor, Kwankwaso and others to come and gather in APC. For me, that is not necessary. What he should have done was to call on the people of Kano to stay peaceful, regardless of who is leading, since the case is over. Whether you insult them or not, whether they know how to do it or not, they are the ones in power. Whatever it is, it will come to pass. Eight years is just like tomorrow. I have done eight years and added 12 to 13 years ahead. Wherever we are, if we do not see or feel justice will be served on us, we leave. That is the basis of leadership or association.”

Shekarau’s viewpoint emphasizes the importance of promoting peace and unity in Kano State, regardless of political differences. He believes that the focus should be on fostering a harmonious coexistence among the people of Kano, rather than engaging in political maneuvers and power struggles.

By expressing his disapproval of Ganduje’s invitation to Governor Yusuf and Kwankwaso to join the APC, Shekarau is advocating for a more inclusive and reconciliatory approach to politics in Kano State. He emphasizes the need for fairness and justice, and suggests that if these principles are not upheld, individuals may choose to seek alternative paths.

Overall, Shekarau’s comments reflect his commitment to the well-being and unity of the people of Kano, and his belief in the importance of leadership that prioritizes peace, justice, and inclusivity. His perspective serves as a reminder of the significance of fostering a peaceful and harmonious political environment, where diverse viewpoints are respected and valued.
