Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has revealed that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has done a remarkable job in improving security on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway. He made this statement during an interview on Legit.ng’s Twitter Space titled; “Tackling Corruption or Insecurity: Priorities for the FG in 2024” on Wednesday, January 31. Sani acknowledged that despite the continued occurrence of kidnapping and terrorism, the efforts of the army, police, and security forces under President Tinubu’s administration have shown significant improvement compared to previous administrations.
While acknowledging that conflicts still persist, Sani noted the reduction in reported incidents of terrorism along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway, stating that during the administration of Buhari, it was virtually impossible for people to travel between Kaduna to Abuja due to the high frequency of attacks. However, the reduction in the number of reported incidents under Tinubu’s administration signifies a positive development in terms of security.
Sani further emphasized the impact of previously high rates of kidnapping in the region, stating that people had to sell their properties and go into serious debt to pay ransoms to kidnappers. He acknowledged the need for improved security to restore the peace and law that the citizens seek in the country. Sani implored President Tinubu to take note that Nigerians expect more than just a percentage of progress. They strive for complete peace and restoration of law and order in the country, thereby posing a challenge to the administration.
Even though Sani acknowledged the need for more time to allow the administration to demonstrate its capabilities and achieve progress, he cautioned that President Tinubu does not have the luxury of time to waste. He urged Tinubu to focus on addressing the challenges head-on, highlighting the urgency of the situation. Sani emphasized that as an elected leader, Tinubu needs to be proactive and address the needs of the people.
Additionally, Sani shared a heart-rending story about how a principal in Kaduna state was kidnapped and subsequently killed, leaving behind a pregnant wife, two others (wives), and 13 children. This account provided a poignant reminder of the devastating impact of insecurity and terrorism on families in Nigeria.
Sani’s comments serve as a reminder of the critical role of leadership in addressing security concerns and the urgent need to prioritize the safety and well-being of the citizens. His insights also indicate the desire for tangible progress in combating security challenges and restoring peace and stability in the country.
In summary, Sani’s remarks underscore the need for President Tinubu’s administration to proactively address security challenges and the urgency of restoring peace and law in Nigeria. His comments also highlight the impact of insecurity on families and communities, amplifying the importance of effective leadership in addressing security concerns and delivering tangible improvements.
