In a two-day congress held in Abuja to evaluate the outcomes of the 2023 presidential election, the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (SCSN) expressed regret for supporting a Muslim-Muslim ticket and officially revoked its endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. During the congress, the council accused President Tinubu of marginalizing the country’s Muslim population. The council is renowned for its role in mobilizing scholars, various sects, and Islamic groups to bring the current government to power.

According to Daily Trust, Nafiu Baba Ahmed, the Secretary-General of the council, informed the media that the congress provided a platform for intellectuals and representatives from various sects to voice their concerns regarding the recent presidential election. He stated that the scholars and various groups felt neglected and accused the government of turning its back on Muslims despite voting in the Muslim-Muslim ticket.

In response to the council’s criticism, President Tinubu summoned a meeting with leaders of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja. This meeting occurred approximately 48 hours after Sheikh Abdur Rasheed Hadiyyatullah, the President of SCSN, expressed remorse for endorsing the Tinubu-Shettima same-faith ticket last year. Sheikh Hadiyyatullah also criticized the Muslim-Muslim ticket presented by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 election, claiming that it failed to deliver positive changes to the lives of Nigerians.

In another report, President Tinubu addressed the claim that he’s considering a cabinet reshuffle amid investigations into alleged fraud in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs. The presidency stated that the Tinubu-led administration would not spare any individual found culpable of corruption. Special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, assured that the administration would take appropriate action against any individual involved in corrupt practices.

It is essential to note that President Tinubu’s response to the Sharia Council’s criticism and cabinet reshuffle claim comes after the council expressed regret over its support for his administration and accused him of marginalizing the Muslim population in Nigeria.
