President Bola Tinubu’s administration has come under heavy criticism in Nigeria due to the current hardship in the country. Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate in the upcoming 2023 election, faulted Tinubu’s economic policies, stating that the gains are lesser compared to the pains inflicted on the citizens. Adebayo disclosed that Nigerians are now stuck with Tinubu’s perceived “bad” policies for the next four years, especially following the removal of petrol subsidy and the floating of the naira.

The SDP’s Adebayo described Tinubu’s economic policies as detrimental to the populace as the hardship in the country intensifies. In a recent interview on Channels Television’s program, Sunday Politics, Adebayo expressed his disapproval of the current economic policies, particularly the sudden removal of fuel subsidy. He mentioned that if he were in power, he would not have removed the subsidy immediately but would have considered amending the 2023 Appropriation Act to provide temporary relief for the people.

Adebayo criticized Tinubu’s administration for its lack of consideration towards the well-being of Nigerians, emphasizing that the policies implemented are not suitable for the citizens. He highlighted the need for a more empathetic approach to governance, suggesting that the government should be less arrogant in its decision-making to alleviate the suffering of the people. Adebayo pointed out that despite the unfavorable policies, Nigerians are left with no choice but to endure them until the next election.

In a related development, Yoruba national advocate Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, shifted the blame for Nigeria’s economic woes from Tinubu to President Buhari. Adeyemo absolved Tinubu of responsibility for the country’s economic hardships, claiming that Buhari had left behind a nation in turmoil. He accused Buhari of orchestrating violent raids on his home and attempting to assassinate him as retribution for his activism against the violence perpetrated by Fulani herders in the Southwest region.

As the economic crisis deepens in Nigeria, criticism towards the government’s policies, especially those implemented by President Tinubu, continues to grow. Adewole Adebayo’s disapproval of Tinubu’s economic decisions reflects the sentiments of many Nigerians who are grappling with increasing hardship. The call for more empathetic and considerate governance resonates strongly in a time when the populace is facing numerous challenges.

Despite the criticisms and challenges, the hope for a better future remains as the country looks towards the 2023 elections to potentially usher in a new era of leadership and policies. It is evident that the decisions made by political leaders have a significant impact on the lives of the citizens, emphasizing the importance of thoughtful and compassionate governance in tackling the current hardships faced by Nigerians.
