The Nigeria Schools Sports Federation (NSSF) has re-elected Olabisi Joseph for a second term in office, making her the first female president of the body. The re-election took place at the 2024 yearly general assembly of the NSSF held at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Lagos, where Joseph was unanimously re-elected by the delegates from 27 states and FCT Abuja.

During the assembly, the delegates commended Joseph for her first term as president, citing the return of NSSF to the international scene. They pointed to Nigeria’s participation in several International School Sports Federation (ISF) events in France, Mexico, and Morocco as evidence of the progress made under Joseph’s leadership.

In her acceptance speech, Joseph expressed gratitude to the delegates for their trust and confidence in her executive, pledging to work even harder to make NSSF a focal point for talent discovery in sports.

Addressing the delegates, Joseph said, “With your votes, you have all encouraged me. Thank you for having faith in me and returning me to this office. I guarantee you that we will continue from where we are now and hopefully, we will build a federation that we will all be proud of even after leaving office.”

She continued, “Your vote demonstrates that you trust me to be your voice and I cannot thank you enough for your trust. I pledge to take us to greater heights and to complete all of my goals. You have shown that you believe in my leadership by returning me for another term in office. I hope I can live up to your expectations and take our federation to a greater height.”

Joseph also promised to work diligently with the new executives to improve the status of school sports, with the hope that the positive changes will eventually impact the overall development of sports in Nigeria.

The newly elected members of the executive committee include Dickson Monday Tinism (VP 1), Emmanuel Ebong (VP 2), Ifeoma Onuchukwu (VP 3), Aminu Fada (VP 4), Dr Oba Funsho Usman (Secretary General), Adagbo Godwin Abari (Treasurer), Fawolu Robertson Olajide (Financial Secretary), Aka Ikechukwu (Assistant Secretary), Hassan Dauda (Auditor 1), David Bot Danbuyi (Auditor 2), and Sagiru Sani Dandano (PRO).

The re-election of Olabisi Joseph and the appointment of the new executive committee members signal a continuation of the progress and positive direction that the NSSF has been moving towards. With Joseph’s leadership and the support of the new executives, the federation is poised to further develop school sports in Nigeria and ensure that the country remains competitive on the international stage.

As the first female president of the NSSF, Joseph’s re-election represents a significant milestone in the history of the federation and is a testament to her leadership abilities. With her renewed mandate, Joseph is well-positioned to continue making a meaningful impact on the development of school sports in Nigeria.
