Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, recently inaugurated a 14-member State Special Dispensation Palliative Advisory Committee in response to the hardship facing residents in the state. This committee was established as part of the measures rolled out by Governor Sanwo-Olu to alleviate the challenges faced by the people of Lagos.

Among the measures announced by Governor Sanwo-Olu were a reduction in working days for civil servants, a 25 percent discount on food purchases, reduced BRT fares, and the engagement of 1,000 caterers to provide daily free meals for residents. These initiatives were aimed at providing immediate relief to those in need during these difficult times.

The State Special Dispensation Palliative Advisory Committee is chaired by Governor Sanwo-Olu himself, with Deputy Governor Dr. Kadir Obafemi Hamzat serving as the alternate chairman. The committee consists of a diverse group of individuals representing different sectors of society, including religious leaders, politicians, activists, and community leaders.

The list includes NASFAT Chief Missioner Imam Abdulazeez Onike, Labour Party (LP) member Seyi Sowunmi representing Ojo Federal Constituency, human rights activist Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, and Chairman of Bariga Local Government Area Hon. Kolade Alabi.

Other members of the committee include Mr. Taofeek Gani, a People Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Dr. Shina Fagbenro-Byron, a former DFID official and LP member, Ademola Shabi representing Lagos State House of Assembly, Biliaminu Oba as the Youth Representative, Sola Salako-Ajulo as a Consumer Rights Advocate, Pastor Gorman Akinlabi from Elevation Church, and Kikelomo Bolarinwa, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Governments who will serve as the committee’s secretary.

The formation of this committee signals the government’s commitment to working together with different stakeholders to address the challenges facing the people of Lagos. By bringing together individuals from various backgrounds and sectors, the committee aims to ensure that the palliative measures put in place by the government effectively reach those in need.

Overall, the establishment of the State Special Dispensation Palliative Advisory Committee demonstrates Governor Sanwo-Olu’s proactive approach towards providing relief to the residents of Lagos and addressing their immediate needs during these challenging times. The committee’s diverse composition reflects the government’s commitment to inclusivity and collaboration in its efforts to support the people of Lagos.
