Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, recently defended the decision to focus on infrastructure development in the rural areas of the nation’s capital, Abuja. During an inspection of the ongoing Yangoji-Sukuku Ebo and Kwali Unity Bank rural roads in Kwali area council, the minister spoke to the press about the importance of extending development to these less populated regions.
The Yangoji -Sukuku Ebo road is currently being handled by Gilmor Engineering Limited, while the Kwali Unity Bank Road is under construction by another contractor. Wike emphasized the significance of providing rural dwellers with proper infrastructure, as they are integral parts of the FCT. He pointed out that investing in rural areas not only benefits the local residents but also helps in reducing rural-urban migration and curbing criminal activities like banditry.
The minister highlighted the necessity of ensuring that rural communities have access to infrastructure to facilitate their economic activities. For instance, farmers in these areas need good roads to transport their produce to the city. Wike also raised security concerns, noting that proper infrastructure is vital for security personnel to reach remote areas in case of emergencies.

During the inspection, the Managing Director of Gilmor Engineering Limited, Eli-Goldhar, assured the minister that the Yangoji -Sukuku Ebo road would be completed before December.
