The President of Rotary International, Gordon Mclnally, is set to make a generous donation of $7 million for eradication and disease prevention in Nigeria during his upcoming visit to the country. This donation comes on the heels of Rotary’s previous contributions of $14 million through the World Health Organization (WHO) for polio surveillance and an additional $2 million grant for Maternal and Child Health improvement in Nigeria.

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of Rotary International in Abuja made the announcement, highlighting the organization’s commitment to supporting healthcare initiatives in Nigeria. In particular, the donation aims to bolster efforts in disease control, child health, and maternal health, with a focus on eradicating polio and preventing diseases.

During his visit, President Gordon Mclnally is scheduled to meet with President Bola Tinubu to discuss further areas of collaboration and assistance in healthcare. The visit is expected to strengthen the ties between the Nigerian government and Rotary International, emphasizing the importance of partnership in addressing healthcare challenges.

Rotary International, a leading humanitarian organization with over 1.5 million members worldwide, has played a significant role in the eradication of polio in Nigeria. The organization holds observer status at the United Nations and has been actively involved in supporting healthcare initiatives globally.

The donation of $7 million to UNICEF for eradication and disease prevention in Nigeria underscores Rotary’s ongoing commitment to supporting healthcare projects in the country. The organization works closely with national and international partners, including the Federal Ministry of Health and State Ministries of Health, to implement its programs effectively.

Nigeria holds a strategic position for Rotary International, with the country being recognized for its strong commitment to humanitarian efforts. With four districts in Nigeria, the organization is set to increase the number of districts to six by 2024, making it the country with the highest number of districts in Africa. Nigeria’s contributions to humanitarian giving in the Africa Zone have also been significant, reflecting the country’s dedication to supporting communities in need.

Overall, Rotary International’s continued support for healthcare initiatives in Nigeria, including the upcoming donation of $7 million, reaffirms its commitment to improving the health and well-being of communities in the country. Through strategic partnerships and collaborative efforts, Rotary and its partners aim to make a lasting impact on healthcare outcomes in Nigeria and beyond.
