Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State recently made an unprecedented move by elevating the traditional stool of the Amanyanabo of Okochiri Kingdom, currently occupied by King Ateke Tom, to first-class status. The stool, previously considered second-class, was upgraded during a special ceremony organized by the Okrika Council of Chiefs and the people of Okrika at the Okrika National School field. This decision was a significant one, as it marked a shift in the traditional hierarchy of the region.
Governor Fubara, known for his advocacy for peace through tangible sacrifices and commitment, explained that the people of Rivers State now feel liberated and wholeheartedly support his government. This sense of liberation has led to the organization of special thanksgiving services in celebration of his legal victory in all 23 Local Government Areas on a weekly basis, without any prompting from the governor himself. This organic show of support is a testament to the peace that Governor Fubara stands for and the positive impact it has had on the people.
During the ceremony, Governor Fubara also announced plans to commence reconstruction work on the Isaka Community Landing Jetty and reactivate the sand filling project that had been abandoned in the area. These infrastructure projects are aimed at further improving the living conditions and livelihoods of the people in the region.
Former Federal Minister of Transport, Chief Abiye Sekibo, in his welcome address, highlighted the importance of the occasion in celebrating one of their own, King Ateke Tom, who has played a significant role in maintaining peace in the various communities of the Niger Delta region. Chief Sekibo also congratulated Governor Fubara on his electoral victory and commended him for his commitment to fostering peace and development in the area. He assured the governor of the continued support of the Wakirike nation towards his administration during his second tenure.
The apex body of traditional rulers and the people of Okrika bestowed the honor of Be Se Poku on King Ateke Tom, acknowledging his contributions to the peace and prosperity of the Okochiri Kingdom. This recognition further solidifies his position as a respected leader in the community.
Overall, Governor Fubara’s decision to elevate the traditional stool of the Amanyanabo of Okochiri Kingdom to first-class status reflects his commitment to peace and development in Rivers State. The support and appreciation from the people are clear indicators of the positive impact his administration has had on the region, paving the way for further progress and prosperity in the future.
