RESEARCHERS have reported that former professional soccer players had a higher incidence of dementia compared with the general population.

They reported higher dementia risk for these athletes despite the rates of various modifiable risk factors for dementia among professional soccer players being comparable to — or even lower than — those of people who did not play the sport in a study published in JAMA Network Open.
