The forum of 36 state chairmen of the Labour Party (LP) has made a passionate plea to the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure, urging him to reconsider the suspension of the party’s National Treasurer, Ms. Oluchi Opara, and to re-admit her into the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party. This call was made during a solidarity visit made by the state chairmen to the National Secretariat of the party on Tuesday, led by the Abia State LP chairman, Mr. Ceekay Igara.

In addition, the state chairmen expressed their support for the call by the National leader of the party, Mr. Peter Obi, for a forensic audit of the party’s finances in the interest of accountability. They emphasized their alignment with the decisions taken by the National Working Committee (NWC) and their commitment to the party’s transparency and accountability.

Mr. Igara emphasized, “We also want to assure you that we support wholeheartedly, all the decisions taken by the National Working Committee (NWC). But, we must also appeal on the issue of the suspension of the national treasurer. We appeal that they should revisit the process, they should revisit it so that they would know that we do not have anything to hide. We appeal to the National Working Committee to revisit that suspension, in the spirit of unity and our ability to build this party and the spirit of brotherhood.”

Addressing the audit of the party’s account, Igara reiterated the forum’s full support for it and called for a swift resolution. He expressed, “His decision to involve an independent auditor is a welcome one and we believe that the outcome will finally exonerate Julius Abure and also expose the lies being peddled by the suspended Treasurer.”

Furthermore, Igara dismissed the idea of internal conflicts within the party, attributing the current crisis to external political opponents who are threatened by the party’s potential. He asserted, “It is very clear that the sponsored crisis is the hand work of our political opponents that are afraid of the future of the party. The Labour Party is dynamite and the fear of the party is the beginning of wisdom for our opponents.”

Additionally, Igara dispelled rumors of plans to suspend the party’s National Leader, Peter Obi, reaffirming his unwavering leadership within the party. He stated, “We also want to use this opportunity to debunk the allegation that the Labour Party is planning to suspend our National Leader, Peter Obi. The party has not at any time contemplated a suspension of our leader. He remains our leader and will continue to lead the party in our avowed determination to pull this nation out from the strangulation under this present government.”

Ultimately, Igara conveyed the forum’s confidence in Abure’s leadership, declaring a vote of confidence in him as the National Chairman of the Labour Party. The state chairmen are steadfast in their support for the party’s leadership and remain dedicated to strengthening the party’s position in the political landscape.
