In response to public demands, the Rivers State Government has announced a massive effort to revitalize the Songhai Farms in Tai LGA. State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara shared this news during the SIMplified Movement Thanksgiving service held to celebrate his recent Supreme Court victory and landslide win in the 2023 elections. Represented by former member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Evans Bapakaye Bipi, the Governor emphasized his administration’s dedication to revolutionizing the agricultural sector to combat hunger and ensure food security for the people of the state.
The Songhai model farm, originally established by former Governor Rotimi Amaechi, was neglected by the previous administration led by Nyesom Wike, resulting in its closure and deterioration, which drew widespread criticism from the public. Fubara expressed his commitment to reactivating the facility, with the aim of promoting food sufficiency and providing employment opportunities for the youth of Rivers State.
Despite facing opposition, the Governor remained steadfast in his goal to improve the agricultural sector. Detractors attempted to disrupt the reactivation of the Songhai Farms by offering slippers and rice to the people of Tai, but the Governor remained focused on his plans for the farm.
In recognition of Governor Fubara’s leadership, the vice-chairman of PDP in Rivers West Senatorial District, Hon Robinson Ewoh, praised the Governor’s dedication to the welfare of the people. He highlighted the Governor’s efforts in infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and other key areas of governance, which have provided relief to the citizens amidst challenging economic conditions.
Hon Ewoh also contrasted Governor Fubara’s approach with that of the previous administration, noting the former government’s misuse of public funds and properties for personal gain. He commended Governor Fubara for upholding noble values and shunning corruption in favor of serving the people.
Various leaders at the thanksgiving service expressed gratitude for Governor Fubara’s leadership, which they credited with freeing Rivers State from anti-democratic forces that had hindered progress in the past administration. Their prayers and thanks were directed towards the Governor for his role in bringing positive change to the state.
Overall, the reactivation of Songhai Farms represents a significant step towards enhancing the agricultural sector in Rivers State and improving food security for its residents. Governor Fubara’s commitment to this project, despite challenges and opposition, demonstrates his determination to prioritize the welfare and development of the state.
