The Coalition of Pro-Democracy Groups for A Better Nigeria, also known as the Coalition of June 12 Activists, has issued a directive to its affiliate and non-affiliate groups, both at home and in the diaspora, not to participate in any planned national protest regarding the current economic situation in the country.

In a statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Away Bamiji, the Coalition emphasized that protest is not the solution to the present economic challenges in the country. The group also expressed concerns that some opposition members might seek to use the economic situation to undermine the nation’s emerging democracy.

The Coalition commended the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, for urging groups and individuals from the South East zone not to partake in any planned protests. Chief Iwuanyanwu made this position known while addressing the media in Enugu, stating that he had been approached to mobilize Nigerians from the Southeast zone to join national demonstrations.

The Coalition, representing hundreds of youth and student organizations across Nigeria and abroad, highlighted its commitment to truth and the principles of democracy. It directed all pro-democracy groups and communities in Nigeria and the diaspora not to join any protest against the government. The Coalition also raised questions about the actions and positions of those calling for protests, especially if they were part of the opposition parties in previous administrations.

Acknowledging the economic crisis in Nigeria, the Coalition revealed that it had convened top Nigerian economists and war experts, both at home and abroad, to strategize on overcoming the current economic hardship and security challenges. These experts would provide advice to President Bola Tinubu on the economy and security, while civil societies pledged to support the President through this difficult period.

The Coalition appealed to youths across the country to desist from protests and instead focus on contributing ideas to jointly fix the country’s economic challenges. It emphasized that the solution to the economic crisis required collective efforts from all citizens, regardless of tribe, religion, or political affiliation.

The statement also highlighted protests that had occurred in some parts of the country, such as Kano, Niger, Osun, and Oyo States, regarding the economic crisis. The Coalition called on these protesting youths to come forward with their ideas for collectively addressing the country’s challenges.

Finally, the Coalition emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in breaking the cycle of economic hardship, as all citizens are feeling the impact regardless of their background or current location. It urged everyone to work together to improve the country’s economic situation for the benefit of all.
