The claim made by Senator Abdul Ningi that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is operating two versions of the 2024 budget has been addressed by the presidency. Senator Ningi, representing the Northern Senators’ Forum, stated in a recent interview with the BBC Hausa Service that the national assembly approved a budget of N25 trillion for 2024, instead of N28.7 trillion. However, the special adviser to the president on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, refuted this claim, describing it as false and misleading.
In a statement released on Sunday, March 10, Bayo Onanuga emphasized that Senator Ningi’s claims are baseless and lack credibility. The presidency asserted that President Tinubu is committed to upholding the rule of law and constitutional democracy, ensuring that all government actions are in compliance with the law. As such, there is only one version of the 2024 budget being implemented, which is the N28.7 trillion budget passed by the national assembly and signed by the President.
The presidency also addressed Senator Ningi’s allegation that the 2024 budget was biased against the northern region. It stated that President Tinubu’s administration is dedicated to fairness and equality for all parts of Nigeria, rejecting any insinuation of regional favoritism in budget implementation.
Furthermore, it was reported that the Nigerian Senate passed the 2024 appropriation bill as proposed by President Tinubu. The budget size was increased from N27.5 trillion to N28.7 trillion, demonstrating the legislative branch’s approval of the budget proposed by the executive.
In conclusion, the presidency has refuted the claims made by Senator Abdul Ningi regarding the 2024 budget, affirming that there is only one version of the budget being implemented. President Tinubu’s administration is committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring equitable distribution of resources across all regions of Nigeria. The statements made by Senator Ningi have been deemed false and misleading, with the government maintaining its focus on transparent and accountable governance practices.
