The Edo State Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Kelly Ogbaloi, was recently released on bail from the AIG Zone 5 Police headquarters. He, alongside National Chairman Mr Julius Abure and four others, had been arrested by police officers from the AIG Zone 5 headquarters on charges of conspiracy and attempted murder, among others.

While Abure was released in the early hours of Wednesday, Ogbaloi was released later that evening. However, the youth leader of the party in the state was still in police custody at the time of filing the report.

Upon his release, Ogbaloi addressed the media and gave his account of the events leading to their arrest. He explained that they had gone to the police station after learning that the national chairman had been taken in. Upon their arrival, they were faced with a petition against them, alleging their involvement in a violent incident against a former party member. Ogbaloi vehemently denied the allegations, stating that he had been out of the state at the time of the incident and questioned the credibility of the petitioner.

Regarding the party’s readiness for the upcoming governorship primary election, Ogbaloi expressed confidence in their preparations before their arrest but acknowledged the need to reassess the situation upon his release.

The ordeal of the party officials being detained and the allegations against them shook the LP in Edo State. Despite these challenges, Ogbaloi maintained his determination to ensure that the party’s affairs were in order for the impending primary election.

The release of Ogbaloi and Abure brought some relief to the party, but with the youth leader still in custody, there were concerns about the impact on the LP’s activities and preparations for the election. Ogbaloi’s remarks to the media shed light on the political tensions and accusations that the party was facing in the lead-up to the primary election.

The incident had undoubtedly caused disruption and raised questions about the integrity of the electoral process in Edo State. However, Ogbaloi’s release and his commitment to reviewing and strengthening the party’s position suggested that the LP was determined to overcome these challenges and continue its political activities in the region.

In conclusion, the release of Kelly Ogbaloi and Julius Abure from police custody marked a significant development in the events leading up to the governorship primary election in Edo State. Their detention had raised concerns about the party’s readiness and stability, but Ogbaloi’s reassurance that they would regroup and assess their preparations indicated a continued effort to participate in the upcoming political process. The LP’s determination to address these challenges and move forward despite the adversities demonstrated their commitment to engaging in the democratic process in Edo State.
