The Kaduna State Police Command has made a significant arrest, capturing a notorious kidnapping gang leader responsible for the Fadan Kamantan inferno in 2023, where a Seminarian and a Church were burnt down. The command’s spokesman, Mansir Hassan, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Kaduna.

The apprehended individual, Yakubu Saidu, also known as Ismail, was involved in banditry, culpable homicide, and mischief by fire. According to Mr. Hassan, on September 7, 2023, at around 20:30hrs, the Officer in Charge of Fadan Kamantan, Zonkwa, reported a distressing situation at St. Raphael Catholic Church, Kamantan, where suspected kidnappers had attacked.

Despite the urgency of the situation, police operatives, in conjunction with military personnel, swiftly mobilized to the scene. Sadly, the suspects had already set ablaze the priest’s residence before the authorities arrived. The fire resulted in one Seminarian, Stephen Naaman, losing his life and the destruction of property worth millions of naira, including a Honda vehicle and a motorcycle.

Due to the diligent efforts and persistent investigation by the police, Yakubu Saidu, the alleged mastermind and leader of the kidnapping gang, was apprehended on Friday. He confessed to his involvement in the heinous crime. The Commissioner of Police, Ali Audu, commended the swift and effective response of the police operatives to the distress call. Their dedication and bravery exemplified their commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of Kaduna State residents.

Mr. Hassan reiterated the police command’s unwavering commitment to combatting crime and ensuring the safety and security of all residents. The arrest of Yakubu Saidu is a significant step in holding perpetrators of such crimes accountable and preventing future incidents.

The swift action taken by the authorities in response to the Fadan Kamantan inferno highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the community in addressing criminal activities. The police’s prompt intervention saved lives and prevented further loss of property in the incident.

In conclusion, the arrest of Yakubu Saidu is a significant breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping and other criminal activities in Kaduna State. The police command’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of residents is commendable, and efforts should continue to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
