The Police Command in Ogun State recently made a significant breakthrough by killing five suspected kidnappers and rescuing the victim, a poultry manager named Tunde Osifowokan. This incident took place in Odogbolu Local Government Area of the state when armed gunmen invaded a poultry farm and abducted the farm manager.
Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, addressed the media in Abeokuta on Thursday to provide details about the operation. He mentioned that the police had been actively pursuing the kidnappers since the incident was reported. In the early hours of Thursday morning, the anti-kidnapping unit of the police force stormed the kidnappers’ hideout in Odogbolu forest along the Sagamu-Benin expressway.
A fierce gun battle ensued between the police squad and the kidnappers, resulting in the neutralization of five out of the eight kidnappers, while the remaining suspects managed to escape with bullet wounds. Various exhibits were recovered from the deceased kidnappers, including cash believed to be part of the ransom collected, a sword, cellphones, substances suspected to be drugs, charms, empty shells of AK47 rifles, and sticks.
Fortunately, the victim, Tunde Osifowokan, was rescued unharmed, and the bodies of the kidnappers were deposited at a local hospital morgue. Commissioner Alamutu stated that the police force was intensifying efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects who had fled the scene. He also issued a stern warning to criminals attempting to challenge the authority of the police in the state, emphasizing that they would face the consequences of their actions.
