Peter Obi, the Labour Party flagbearer in the 2023 presidential election, has visited the family of the late Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, one of the five sisters who were killed by kidnappers in Abuja. Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar was kidnapped along with her four sisters and her father, who was released to raise N50 million for the girls’ ransom before the police rescued them. However, tragically, Nabeeha was killed by her kidnappers after her father failed to raise the money demanded by the kidnappers to release her and her sisters.
In his condolence visit to the family, Peter Obi expressed his grief over the heartbreaking incident and called on Nigerians to come together and build a united front to fight insecurity in the country. The former governor of Anambra state shared the moment he visited the mourning family for the loss of their daughter and the sad kidnapping experience as he expressed his support and empathy towards the family.
Obi also remembered another victim, Folashade Ariyo, who was killed alongside Nabeeha over the failure of her family to pay the ransom on time. The Labour Party chieftain called for a united Nigeria to defeat insecurity while describing the kidnapping activities across the country as unfortunate and heartbreaking. He urged Nigerians to come together and unite in the fight against insecurity in the country, emphasizing that it is heartbreaking to witness the pain and suffering of different families caused by the senseless acts of violence that have plagued the nation.
Additionally, Peter Obi has warned President Bola Tinubu against making the same mistake his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, made, regarding the security challenges in the country. Obi expressed concern over recent killings and kidnappings in Abuja and stated that Buhari failed on security for eight years, and it appeared that Tinubu was following his path.
The tragic incident involving Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar and her sisters highlights the pressing need for a united effort to address insecurity in Nigeria from prominent political figures like Peter Obi and the government authorities.
