The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, issued a stern warning to the newly inaugurated Permanent Secretaries of the FCT Administration, emphasizing the importance of performance to retain their positions. The warning came after the inauguration of the Chairman and Commissioners of the FCT Civil Service Commission, FCT Head of Service, and the Permanent Secretaries in Abuja on Monday.

Mr. Wike stressed that as permanent secretaries, they were not political appointees and must meet expectations. He made it clear that failure to perform adequately would result in dismissal without recourse to the usual civil service procedures for queries. The Minister emphasized the need for efficient service delivery without unnecessary delays, urging the officials to support President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

Highlighting the long struggle for the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission since the law was passed in 2018, Mr. Wike called on the workers to show their commitment by working towards the success of the administration. He also mentioned the reshuffling of Directors, which would be facilitated by the newly inaugurated Head of Service.

The Minister urged the Coordinators of Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Abuja Municipal Management Council (AMMC), and Abuja Infrastructure Investment Council (AIIC) to carry out their duties diligently in line with the directives of President Tinubu. Specifically, he emphasized the need for the STDD coordinator to pay attention to developments in area councils, while the AMMC coordinator was tasked with ensuring functioning street lights, proper sanitation, and well-maintained public buildings.

The inauguration ceremony introduced Emeka Ezeh as the Chairman of the Commission, alongside six commissioners representing different geopolitical zones. The appointed commissioners include individuals from the North West, South-South, North East, North Central, South West, and South East regions. Additionally, Udo Atang was appointed as the pioneer Head of FCT Civil Service, along with ten permanent secretaries representing various regions across Nigeria.

The list of permanent secretaries includes individuals from the North East, North West, South West, North Central, South East, and South South regions. The Minister also inaugurated Mr. Abdulkadir Zulkarfi as Coordinator of STDD and Mr. Felix Obuah as Coordinator of AMMC. However, Oladiran Akindele, appointed as Coordinator of Abuja Infrastructure Investment Council (AIIC), was absent from the inauguration ceremony.

In conclusion, the Minister’s address highlighted the importance of commitment and efficiency in public service delivery, urging the newly appointed officials to align with President Tinubu’s vision for the region. The emphasis on performance and accountability underscores the government’s determination to drive positive change and progress in the Federal Capital Territory.
