The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on the National Assembly to investigate President Bola Tinubu’s administration in response to the leaked one billion memo. A leaked memo revealed that Tinubu approved N500 million as the first installment of a N1 billion for the inauguration of a 37-man Tripartite Committee on New National Minimum Wage. The memo reportedly surfaced from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.

PDP strongly criticized the alleged approval of such a substantial amount for a routine government activity, labeling it as the “height of profligacy, imprudence, and financial recklessness.” The opposition party expressed their belief that the Tinubu-led government is a hub of corruption, where officials engage in reckless treasury-looting.

The demand for an investigation was articulated in a statement signed by the party’s spokesman, Debo Ologunagba. The statement denounced the allocation of such a large sum of money for the committee inauguration, particularly in a time of acute food shortage and economic hardship.

The PDP highlighted the insensitivity and disregard for the plight of Nigerians, emphasizing that the alleged spending of N1 billion on the committee’s inauguration was reflective of the administration’s lack of concern for the wellbeing of the citizens. The party also drew attention to the reported plundering of over N44 billion in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, suggesting that this was just one instance of public funds being misused under the guise of the Presidency.

In addition to calling out the Tinubu Presidency to address the allegations, the PDP urged the National Assembly to trigger an investigation into the matter. The party cited Section 88 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) as the legal basis for their demand for immediate action.

The PDP’s call for a probe into President Tinubu’s administration and the alleged misappropriation of funds reflects their commitment to holding the government accountable and ensuring transparency in governance. It also underscores their dedication to advocating for the best interests of Nigerians and striving for a more responsible and ethical leadership.

The allegations and calls for investigation serve as a reminder of the importance of upholding integrity and ethics in public office. The PDP’s stance on the matter reaffirms their unwavering commitment to promoting good governance and fighting against corruption and financial mismanagement within the government.

As the controversy surrounding the leaked memo continues to unfold, the PDP’s demand for a thorough investigation provides an opportunity for a comprehensive examination of the conduct and financial management of the Tinubu administration. It also serves as a demonstration of the party’s commitment to upholding democratic principles and ensuring that public officials are held accountable for their actions.
