The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has instructed state chairmen to provide reports on investigations into alleged anti-party activities by certain members during the upcoming 2023 general election. This directive was given by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, during the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) meeting with the state chairmen in Abuja.
During the meeting, Mr. Bature urged the state chairmen to document their findings in writing so that appropriate actions could be taken by the party leadership. He emphasized the importance of the state chairmen’s involvement in identifying party members engaged in anti-party activities and to report their findings to the National Executive Committee (NEC) for further decisions to be made.
Mr. Bature highlighted the significance of transparency in reporting any incidents of anti-party activities, regardless of the circumstances. He specifically mentioned the need for the acting chairman to communicate with the chairman of the party in Cross River State to address any ongoing issues within the state chapter.
Following the 2023 general election, Mr. Bature stated that the NWC expected the state chapters to submit their post-election reports for review. He expressed concerns over delays in receiving reports from several states and urged prompt submission of the necessary documentation.
Moreover, Mr. Bature recalled that many of the current executives at the state level were elected four years ago during staggered congresses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that some states, including Edo, Bayelsa, Gombe, and Rivers, had executive tenures that had expired, while others had vacancies due to various reasons such as deaths and resignations.
After the meeting, the PDP chairman in Kaduna State, Felix Hyet, disclosed that resolutions were made for state chapters to collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure the party’s success in the 2027 elections. Additionally, the state chairmen pledged their support to the Edo and Ondo chapters of the party for the upcoming governorship elections in those states.
Following the discussions, the NWC held a closed-door meeting with party stakeholders from Ondo. The PDP remains committed to fostering unity within its ranks and securing victories in future elections.
In conclusion, the PDP’s directive to state chairmen underscores the party’s commitment to addressing internal issues and strengthening its organization ahead of the 2023 general election. By fostering transparency and accountability at the state level, the PDP aims to enhance its electoral prospects and solidify support among its members and stakeholders.
