The national chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been a subject of speculation, with rumours surrounding an alleged plot to unseat Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as the party leader. However, a development has emerged which seems to work in Ganduje’s favour and solidify his position as the chairman is the party’s northcentral elders and leaders expressing their full support for him to continue leading beyond 2027.

The Concerned North-central APC Stakeholders group has given their backing to Ganduje’s leadership, stating their desire for him to continue guiding the party beyond the 2027 general elections. This expression of support was made public during a solidarity visit to the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, where thousands of elders and leaders endorsed Ganduje’s leadership and the current National Working Committee (NWC) for their impartial leadership.

The delegation, led by former Senate President Senator Ameh Ebute, expressed satisfaction with Ganduje’s leadership, particularly highlighting his embrace of technology and innovation in managing the party’s affairs. They emphasized the need to consider a track record of performance and the direct benefits to party members when choosing the person to occupy the office of the National Chairman.

In echoing this sentiment, Sen. Jack Tilley-Gyado commended Ganduje’s effectiveness as National Chairman and emphasized the importance of maintaining stability in governance. He also warned against abrupt changes to zoning arrangements, stating that they could negatively affect the country’s governance and overall strength.

During his address to the gathered party members, Ganduje expressed gratitude to the APC leaders and members from the North-central region. He emphasized his commitment to unity within the party and affirmed that his leadership would not entertain those attempting to sow discord.

In another instance, Ganduje exempted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from blame regarding the violence and insecurity plaguing Nigerian elections. He asserted that the accountability for such problems lies squarely with politicians, making these remarks while hosting INEC representatives at the APC national secretariat for authentication purposes.

Overall, these expressions of support from the APC northcentral elders and leaders, as well as from Ganduje’s colleagues in the party, serve as a resounding endorsement of his leadership. With their backing, it appears that Ganduje’s position as the National Chairman of the APC is secure, at least in the eyes of these influential stakeholders within the party.
