The Oyo State Government is taking proactive steps to improve access to potable water, sanitation, and hygiene in the state by signing a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with WaterAid. This partnership aims to transform lives and alleviate poverty by providing essential services to residents.

Chairman of the Oyo State Water Corporation, Hon. Elias Adeojo, announced this collaboration after a meeting with representatives from WaterAid Nigeria, led by Mr. Alao Adebayo, the Ag. Director of Programmes. Adeojo emphasized the significance of this MoU in managing water resources effectively in the state. He praised the efforts of the present administration in Oyo State and highlighted the importance of partnerships with organizations like WaterAid to further the development goals of the government.

Despite the challenges faced by the Corporation, such as inadequate power supply affecting their schemes, Hon. Adeojo assured that the State Government is committed to providing potable water to the residents. He called on WaterAid to support the Corporation as it works towards restoring the efficiency of its operations and services.

In response, Mr. Alao Adebayo from WaterAid Nigeria reiterated the agency’s commitment to supporting Oyo State in improving water access for its residents. He emphasized that the MoU would enhance the capacity of the Oyo State Water Corporation to deliver on its mandate effectively. Mr. Adebayo also mentioned WaterAid Africa’s readiness to assist in boosting water supply across Oyo State through their Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) projects.

WaterAid’s support has previously benefitted other states like Lagos, and Mr. Adebayo assured that similar assistance would be extended to Oyo State after completing the necessary procedures and paperwork. This collaboration between the Oyo State Government and WaterAid signifies a step forward in achieving sustainable development goals and improving the quality of life for residents.

The signing of the MoU reflects a shared commitment to addressing water, sanitation, and hygiene challenges in Oyo State. By leveraging the expertise and resources of WaterAid, the state aims to enhance its water management practices and ensure that all residents have access to clean and safe water sources. This partnership underscores the importance of collective efforts in achieving significant improvements in public health and socio-economic development.

Through this collaboration, the Oyo State Water Corporation is poised to overcome existing challenges and deliver on its mandate to provide essential water services to the people of Oyo State. The MoU with WaterAid presents an opportunity for transformative change and sustainable impact in the state’s water sector, ultimately benefiting the well-being and prosperity of its residents.
