Nigeria: Over 2500 athletes set for MTN CHAMPS Continental Relays in Ibadan

MTN CHAMPS Ibadan is set to kick off from 5-8 April at the Lekan Salami Stadium and University of Ibadan Sports Complex in Oyo State. The event is expected to draw nearly 3000 athletes from various schools and teams for an exciting competition. As of April 1, the organizers have received 6499 event entries from 2636 athletes representing 153 secondary schools and 128 junior and senior teams.

MTN CHAMPS Ibadan is the second leg of Season 2 of the School Athletics Competition and will feature 92 track and field events across four age categories. Participants will have the opportunity to compete for over 300 medals and 6 school/team trophies.

The competition will be divided into different age categories:
1. Cadet (U14): This category will feature 12 events including individual sprints, relays, jumps, and throws, and is open to junior secondary schools only.
2. Youth (U17): The Youth category consists of 20 events with individual sprints, relays, jumps, throws, and hurdles, catering to senior secondary schools.
3. Juniors (U20): There will be 29 events in this category, which includes individual sprints, middle-distance races, hurdles, relays, jumps, throws, and a mixed 4x400m relay.
4. Seniors (No Age Restriction): The Seniors category will showcase 31 events with individual sprints, middle-distance races, hurdles, relays, jumps, throws, and mixed and single-gender 4x100m and 4x400m relays.

All registered schools and athletes must collect their competition bibs by April 3rd and 4th at the Lekan Salami Stadium to confirm their participation and secure their spot on the event start lists. The full schedule of events for both locations will be published by Wednesday.
